Short explanaition
The program was inspired by the East Indiaman’s voyages to Asia during the 18th century, featuring Asian and Asian-inspired music by, among others, Tan Dun and Claude Debussy. The Chinese musician Wu Wei fascinated with his expressive playing on the ancient instrument “Sheng” (mouth organ). Alongside him were the French pianist Julien Quentin, one of Europe’s most sought-after pianists, and the Swedish cellist Karolina Öhman, who has established herself abroad as one of the leading performers of contemporary music. The well-known Duo Granmo-Berg performed newly composed sounds for violin and marimba.
