Katarina Karnéus

Mezzo-soprano

Katarina Karnéus was educated at Trinity College of Music and the National Opera Studio in London. She has performed on the world’s largest opera and concert stages and has been engaged with the Gothenburg Opera since 2012. In 2018, Katarina Karnéus was appointed court singer.

She has appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. As a recitalist, she has performed at venues including Wigmore Hall in London, Lincoln Center, Concertgebouw, at royal events at Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street, and at several of HM Queen Silvia’s Childhood Concerts and the Nobel Prize Ceremony in 2010.

Her recordings include songs by Sibelius, Grieg, R. Strauss, and Mahler, orchestral songs by Szymanowski with Simon Rattle, and orchestral songs by Mahler with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Susanna Mälkki. On DVD, she has recorded the role of Brangäne in Tristan und Isolde with Nina Stemme as Isolde.

In 2010, Karnéus won two Grammys for Mahler’s Eighth Symphony with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, and in 2015, she received the medal Litteris et Artibus from H.M. The King of Sweden.
