Elin Rombo began the season at the Royal Swedish Opera, debuting in the role of Violetta in La Traviata. In the spring, she will take on another debut role as Titania in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Last season, Elin guest-starred at Malmö Opera, singing the title role in Suor Angelica and the role of the Foundling in Catharina Backman’s newly composed opera På andra sidan havet, with both one-act operas combined under the title Systrarna. Elin also performed the role of Cunegonde in Candide at the Royal Swedish Opera.
In the 2020/21 season, Elin Rombo appeared as Régine Saint Laurent in Rufus Wainwright’s opera Prima Donna at the Royal Swedish Opera. She also played the young Robert Lax in the world premiere of Philip Glass’s opera Circus Days and Nights, a co-production between Cirkus Cirkör and Malmö Opera. The previous season, Elin Rombo performed as Cunégonde in Candide at the Royal Swedish Opera. The 2018/19 season saw her as Roxana in Szymanowski’s King Roger, both at the Warsaw Opera and the Royal Swedish Opera. Elin also appeared as Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, both at the Royal Swedish Opera.
Elin Rombo has previously guest-starred at the Opéra National de Paris in the role of Anicia Eritea in Cavalli’s Eliogabalo and at the Staatsoper Berlin, where she performed as the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute, Cunégonde in Candide, and participated in the production of Aschemond or The Fairy Queen. Elin Rombo has also played the role of Agnès in Written on Skin at both the Royal Swedish Opera and the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam. At the Göteborg Opera, Elin has sung Adina in The Elixir of Love, and at the Royal Swedish Opera, she has appeared in roles such as Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier, Blanche in Dialogues of the Carmelites, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, Mimì and Musetta in La Bohème, Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, and the young Bathsheba in the premiere of Sven-David Sandström’s Batsheba.
In 2009, Elin Rombo sang the lead role in Luigi Nono’s Al gran sole carico d’amore at the Salzburg Festival under the direction of Ingo Metzmacher, and she reprised the role in the same production at Staatsoper at Kraftwerk Berlin. She has sung Leïla in The Pearl Fishers at Folkoperan, Timante in Floridante at the Handel Festival in Halle, Zerlina in Don Giovanni at the Matteifestivalen in Luleå with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Daniel Harding, and participated in the premiere of Wolfgang Rihm’s Dionysus in Salzburg, with a revival in Berlin. At the Frankfurt Opera, her roles have included Servilia in La clemenza di Tito, Clorinda in Cinderella, Pamina in The Magic Flute, and Corinna in Il viaggio a Reims.
On the concert stage, Elin Rombo has performed under the baton of Riccardo Muti in Brahms’s A German Requiem (Chicago Symphony Orchestra) and Schubert’s Mass in G Major (Orchestre de Paris). In the spring of 2012, she returned to perform with the Orchestre de Paris in Mozart’s Requiem under the direction of Sir Colin Davis. She has sung Honegger’s Jeanne d’Arc au Bûcher in Salzburg, Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn and Fauré’s Requiem with the Malmö Symphony Orchestra, toured with Orphei Drängar in China, Japan, and Singapore, and performed Mozart’s Great Mass in C minor with both the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks.
Elin Rombo was educated at Brandon University Queen Elizabeth II in Canada and at the University College of Opera in Stockholm, where she graduated in 2003. She made her debut at the Royal Swedish Opera as Christa in Janáček’s The Makropulos Affair while still a student. Elin has received numerous scholarships and awards, including the Jenny Lind Scholarship in 1999, the Bernadotte Scholarship in 2003, the Royal Swedish Academy of Music Scholarship, and the Birgit Nilsson Scholarship in 2009. In 2013, Elin Rombo was appointed Court Singer, and in 2016, she was awarded the Litteris et Artibus medal by H.M. The King.
Frontside Chamber Music Association has existed since 2019 and is largely driven by volunteer efforts, but we are highly dependent on additional financial sponsors and fundings. All contributions are used to engage fantastic musicians, rents of venues and all other things that make the festival a magical experience.
If you are interested in chamber music that goes beyond the ordinary, you should become a member! As a member, you are invited to the association’s annual meeting and participate in electing the board. You can also suggest activities for the association, thereby influencing future festivals and other events we organize. You also have the opportunity to volunteer during the festival, allowing you to enjoy wonderful chamber music without paying an entrance fee.

You renew your membership every fall term – we’ll remind you! Alternatively, you can purchase a lifetime membership and thus become a permanent member with a one-time fee.

How does Frontside handle its membership register? In our membership register, we store your name, address details, email address, phone number, and birth year. If you leave the association, we will retain your information for a maximum of seven (7) years before deleting it.
Who has access to my information? We register your details digitally in our membership register. Only you (first party) and individuals with trusted roles in the association (second party) have access to your information. No information is shared with third parties.
You can request to see what information we have collected about you at any time.
Validity? By becoming a member of the association, you enter into an agreement regarding which information about you can be stored with us and who has access to this information, as described above. This agreement is valid indefinitely, as long as you are a member of the Frontside Chamber Music Association.
Do I have the right to have my information deleted? According to GDPR, you have the right to have your information deleted, but you will also lose your membership in the association. To request this, send an email to info@frontside-festival.se and ask for your stored information to be deleted.
